The National Post this morning published an article stating that the practice of flagpoling, which is when foreign nationals in Canada approach the US border, ask for a withdrawal letter, and immediately return to Canada to process a visa, has been curtailed. Pressure is coming from U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, who held a press conference to request that the Canadian government shut down the flagpoling practice. He stated, correctly, that it causes increased waiting times for trade and tourists entering the U.S. and also takes up the CBP’s processing bandwidth. That said, we advise clients to use flagpoling in response to IRCC’s unacceptable long in-land office processing times. IRCC’s website states that flagpoling will be limited to the following days and times at these ports of entry: Quebec region ArmstrongMonday to Thursday, from 12 pm to 7 pm Saint Armand/PhilipsburgMonday to Thursday, from 9 am to 3 pm Saint Bernard-de-LacolleMonday to Thursday, from 12 pm to 7 pm Stanstead Route 55Monday to Thursday, from 8 am to 5 pm Southern Ontario region Fort Erie (Peace Bridge)Tuesday to Thursday, from 8 am to midnight Niagara Falls Rainbow BridgeTuesday to Thursday, from 8 am to midnight Queenston-Lewiston BridgeTuesday to Thursday, from 8 am to midnight Pacific region Abbotsford-HuntingdonMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm AldergroveMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm Boundary BayMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 2 pm DouglasMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm Pacific HighwayMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm Back to all posts Share this post:

Baljinder Singh Everyone in this office was incredibly supportive and helpful. In a situation that could have been very stressful, they took care of EVERYTHING. Thanks Jenny and Devika for providing exceptional service. Dealt with them for the second case, they kept me in loop for the whole process. Highly recommend using them again which in hindsight I will not have to but if you ever need legal help, they are definitely the people to go to!
Ranjana Vashistha It was an exceptional experience with border law firm. They take time to understand client situation and offer the best option. Devika is well knowledgeable lawyer and easy to connect with. John took care of my case and went above and beyond my expectation. He was always there to answer my question. The most responsible lawyer I ever meet, to meet my deadlines, I know he worked many evenings and weekends. I strongly recommend this law firm. In fact no one should go to consultant. My each and every penny spend with this firm is worth more. I am thankful to Devika and John for helping me and my family for our immigration needs.
Charanjit singh I and my family want to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to Devika, John and the team at Borders Law firm for assisting us with the PRTD application for my mother at a time when most processing was closed due to lockdowns. They also worked proactively with us to establish a good strategy with back up plans which gave us sufficient information and assurance. Very responsive and forthcoming with information. Proactive in processing but at the same time they put enough time in the application and the supporting details to have high quality of the application. As a result our application was processed in 1 go at a time when it was critical and sensitive time for the family. Thank you again.
