The National Post this morning published an article stating that the practice of flagpoling, which is when foreign nationals in Canada approach the US border, ask for a withdrawal letter, and immediately return to Canada to process a visa, has been curtailed. Pressure is coming from U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, who held a press conference to request that the Canadian government shut down the flagpoling practice. He stated, correctly, that it causes increased waiting times for trade and tourists entering the U.S. and also takes up the CBP’s processing bandwidth. That said, we advise clients to use flagpoling in response to IRCC’s unacceptable long in-land office processing times. IRCC’s website states that flagpoling will be limited to the following days and times at these ports of entry: Quebec region ArmstrongMonday to Thursday, from 12 pm to 7 pm Saint Armand/PhilipsburgMonday to Thursday, from 9 am to 3 pm Saint Bernard-de-LacolleMonday to Thursday, from 12 pm to 7 pm Stanstead Route 55Monday to Thursday, from 8 am to 5 pm Southern Ontario region Fort Erie (Peace Bridge)Tuesday to Thursday, from 8 am to midnight Niagara Falls Rainbow BridgeTuesday to Thursday, from 8 am to midnight Queenston-Lewiston BridgeTuesday to Thursday, from 8 am to midnight Pacific region Abbotsford-HuntingdonMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm AldergroveMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm Boundary BayMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 2 pm DouglasMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm Pacific HighwayMonday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm Back to all posts Share this post: Facebook-Logo Twitter-Logo Linkedin pinterest Mail-Logo
Teresa F. Borders Law Firm is my far the best experience I have had. After consulting and meeting with other immigration lawyers, I really felt confident with this firm. I have worked with Jenny Mao over the past year and I am happy to say that she has helped me out immensely and I am extreme grateful for not only her professionalism, but for her hard work and determination. I highly reccomend Borders Law Firm. From my experience, they are the best in the GTA.
Annie Caplan Devika and John were excellent. They understood how this process would change my life and helped me get to the US. John was extremely kind and thorough. When my employer in the US ended up trying to take advantage of me, they helped me transfer my visa to a new employer and had so much empathy for my situation and now I have a job in California that makes me so happy while helping others. I am beyond grateful for their kindness and service. I will be using them for any changes to my status going forward.
