IRCC has officially completed the 2022 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) lottery. After conducting draws between October 12th and 20th, IRCC sent out 23,100 invitations to apply for Permanent Residency.

What is the PGP?

The PGP is a lottery-based program in which Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency.

A person is eligible to sponsor their parents and grandparents through the PGP if they are;

  • At least 18 years old;
  • Submitted the interest to sponsor form on IRCC’s website within IRCC’s deadline;
  • Lives in Canada;
  • Is a citizen or a permanent resident; and
  • Meets the minimum income requirement.

The 2022 PGP

Like the previous year, IRCC has only issued invitations for sponsors who submitted through IRCC’s website back in the autumn of 2020. Compared to other applications for permanent residency, the PGP remains the most popular program within IRCC. In October and November of 2020, IRCC received over 200,000 interest to sponsor forms.

The lottery-based system to bring parental and grandparents to Canada remains controversial, but as of this writing the government hasn’t signaled any intention to revisit the program.

Everyone in this office was incredibly supportive and helpful. In a situation that could have been very stressful, they took care of EVERYTHING. Thanks Jenny and Devika for providing exceptional service. Dealt with them for the second case, they kept me in loop for the whole process. Highly recommend using them again which in hindsight I will not have to but if you ever need legal help, they are definitely the people to go to!
