On Monday, March 16, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that foreign nationals, except US citizens, would not be permitted to enter Canada as of March 18, with certain exceptions for travelers in transit, crew members, and diplomats. The Prime Minister further urged all Canadians currently outside the country to return home. Talks are currently ongoing to establish closure of the Canada-US Border for all non-essential and non-trade travel. Healthcare workers, commercial truck drivers, airline crew, and Canadian nationals returning home will likely be exempt from the closure in order to avoid excessive economic damage.
