Deputy Prime Minister Freeland has announced an $85 million dollar allocation to IRCC to help move along around 1.8 million applications that are currently in a processing backlog. This announcement is welcome news to applicants all over the world who face uncertainty and real hardship from not knowing when their immigration applications will see the light of day. As counsel, we feel the pain of inadequate processing resources most directly, as we are tasked with being the “tip of the spear” who prod IRCC with status update requests and, when needed, mandamus applications in Federal Court.
